Ken Welte was born on Dec 11, 1970 in Campbell River on Vancouver Island British Columbia. In 1973 Ken’s family moved back to Nanaimo and Ken graduated High School in 1989. He attended College from 1989 to 1993 and studied Science and Social Science until he finished his Real Estate course from UBC in 1993. Ken has been a professional Realtor® since 1993. Ken married Laura, the love of his life, in 1998 and they have two children.
One of Ken’s passions is flying. Having been an air cadet from 1984 to 1988, Ken Welte received his private pilot’s license in 1991. Ken has been a volunteer and Civilian Instructor with the Air Cadet program since 1994. He ran the flying program as well as mentored young cadets on career planning and life skills. When Ken’s son Andrew joined the air cadet program in 2006, Ken took a leave from Cadets to become Andrews’s personal coach. Andrew has followed Ken’s foot steps when it comes to community involvement and received the “Cadet Medal of Excellence” for community service, this past year at the young age of only 16. Andrew is one of the youngest cadets to receive this medal of recognition. Andrew is off to Air Cadet camp this year to receive this private glider’s license. Ken Welte currently owns a Cessna 172 and flies approximately 100 hours per year.
Another passion of Ken’s is travel; Ken has extensively traveled Europe and Great Britain. His travels have had a genealogical and historical spin to it. He has been fortunate enough to stand in places where his great, great, great, grandparents have been born, as well as locations of marriage. Being an amateur military historian Ken is a member of several military historical associations and lectures at these events. His travels have also involved Canadian European military history. Flying has supported Ken’s travel bug and he has personally flown his plane over most of British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Alaska, Washington State and Oregon. He tries to complete one big trip every year. A couple of highlights are flying to Alaska to fly the Alaskan highway to Fort St John. Also another is flying the Trans Canada highway through the Rockies. He thinks nothing of jumping into his plane and flying to places like 100 Mile House just to have breakfast.
Ken Welte loves photography, a hobby his father introduced him to when he was a young boy and something he has introduced to his Daughter. Photography is a great compliment to his passion for flying and travel.
From the mid 1990’s Ken funded and ran a program to give underprivileged youth their first jobs. In 2007 as a continuation to his commitment to helping youth he joined the Masonic fraternity and became a Shiner the next year. Ken is currently the director and promoter of public relations for Job’s Daughters in Nanaimo an organization that his Daughter is involved with. Their charity work is HIKE (Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment Fund). Finally one of the organizations Ken Welte is most proud to be involved with is “Poco a Poco”, this governor general award winning Charity provides health care and funding for medical education within Guatemala.
Ken’s commitment to youth is absolute; he lends financial support to his local high school rugby team as well as local hockey and motocross, to mention a few.
Ken Welte currently works with Remax Ocean Point Realty and is an expert at marketing and selling commercial, residential and recreational properties throughout British Columbia. Ken lives full time on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo and part time downtown in the West end of Vancouver, with offices in both locations.
